Hundreds of temporary workers of the National Identification Authority have hit the street in protest over the non-payment of their four months’ allowances.
The aggrieved workers, draped in red and black carried placards some of which read, “we need our cash,” “Finance Minister where is our cash?”, “stop the payment of ex gratia and pay us.”
The workers say they have been neglected for far too long.
A leader of the demonstrators, Mr. Ofori Atta told Joy News they had been told that money was at the finance, they had received it.
He said the processing of the allowance was unduly delayed.
“After this demonstration, if we don’t hear anything from our authorities or from government, we will advice ourselves.”
About 1, 500 mobile registration work station operators have been registering people and issuing ID cards for the past nine months.
So far the NIA has registered people in the Central, Western and Eastern Regions.
