The National Identification Authority (NIA) will effective Tuesday, June 1, commence the operationalization of its 17 Regional and 275 Districts offices nationwide.
The initiative taken by the Authority is in line with its statutory mandate aimed at "increasing access to the Ghana Card, other related registration activities” to all Ghanaians and "the NIA’s visibility throughout the nation.”
These Regional and District offices will operate within the usual business hours on the weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm.
In ensuring a smooth roll-out of this initiative, the NIA will from June 1 to 6, embark on a public sensitisation exercise to engage with community leaders on the operation of its offices to begin operation.
From June 7, the Authority will begin the “issuance of Ghana Cards to Ghanaians who registered during the mass registration exercise but could not get their cards” as well as continue its public education.
According to the NIA in its press statement dated May 31, citizens above the age of 15 years will be permitted to register for their Ghana Cards from July 5.
The Association from the set date above would also “replace lost, stolen, and damaged cards,” and also “update personal information of applicants in the National Identity Register (NIR).
Meanwhile, Ag Head, Corporate Affairs at the NIA, Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu has stated that the Authority will in due time inform the general public as to when persons under 15 years can register for their Ghana Cards.
“The NIA respectfully requests the co-operation and support of members of the general public,” he entreated.
