The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH₵270 million to healthcare providers, covering vetted claims up to October 2024 and part of November.
With no outstanding claims within the three-month reimbursement period, this payment boosts total disbursements over the past four months to GH₵1.2 billion, ensuring timely support for healthcare providers across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, January 3, the initiative is part of the NHIA's prompt payment strategy, enhancing service delivery and maintaining a debt-free status.
The NHIA urged healthcare facilities to submit claims promptly to sustain efficient reimbursements.
"The NHIA’s commitment to timely payments is a vital part of its strategy to strengthen the healthcare system, build strong partnerships with healthcare providers, and deliver quality healthcare services to all subscribers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)," part of the statement read.
The statement further stated that NHIA remains committed to engaging with stakeholders to address any concerns and ensure the collaboration needed to sustain an efficient and effective healthcare system.
It noted that the NHIS benefit package remains expansive, addressing over 95 per cent of disease conditions and offering over 550 medications.
In recent months, the NHIA has also disbursed GH₵402 million for June and July claims, GH¢335 million for August, and GH¢200 million for September and October.
"These payments demonstrate the Authority's dedication to fulfilling its financial obligations to healthcare providers and strengthening the healthcare sector for the benefit of all Ghanaians."
