The KNUST Alumni Association's Spintex chapter, in partnership with the Lady Pharmacists’ Association of Ghana (LAPAG) and Broll Ghana, recently initiated a mentorship outreach program for basic schools in Mamfe-Akuapem.
The inaugural session on Friday, December 5th, reached Mamfe Presby JHS, Mamfe Methodist JHS, Mamfe Presby Primary, Mamfe Methodist Primary, Apostolic Preparatory School, and Saforo MA Basic School.
Focused on bolstering effective learning skills and providing insight into adolescent reproductive health, the program reached approximately 700 upper primary and JHS students, supplementing their education with distributed stationery items.
Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III, Mamfe Hene and Kyidom Hene, expressed genuine concern for local youth facing obstacles in education due to poor academic performance, limited knowledge on reproductive health, and a lack of mentorship and career guidance. His engagement underscores a sincere commitment to addressing real issues affecting the younger generation.
The collaboration between Mrs. Jemima Owusu-Baah, a global executive member of the KNUST alumni and the Spintex chapter, Mr. Herman Yobo Addae, CEO of Mentors World, and pharmacist Audrey Serwaa Bonsu, Project Lead for LAPAG's mentorship committee, was instrumental in the program's success.
A team of dedicated young adults served as mentors, actively participating in planning and execution. Eunice Asante Bediako, Kukua Sampson, and Dr. Daniel Ako Charway, representing Mentors’ World, Broll Ghana, and LAPAG respectively, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support in roles that directly impacted the lives of local students.
One significant aspect of the program was the heart-to-heart sessions with the pupils, providing an authentic platform for open dialogue on their thoughts and concerns.
These conversations yielded valuable insights into the unique challenges faced by the children, forming the basis for a sincere commitment to addressing their needs in the future.
Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern regional minister, and other local leaders endorsed the vision, recognizing the importance of empowering students with essential information and mentorship to enable them to make informed decisions for their future.
This mentorship program stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in effecting positive change in education, embodying a sincere effort to address real challenges faced by students in Mamfe-Akuapem.
