Members of the Windy International Youth Foundation (WIYF), a Non-Governmental Organization with its headquarters at Winneba, have embarked on a tree planting exercise in and around the town.
The exercise formed part of the National Tree Planting Programme dubbed "Greening Ghana Tree Planting project" designed to improve the country's ecology.
Briefing newsmen on the operations of the Foundation after one of such exercises at the weekend, Mr. Philip K. Dowuona, President of the NGO, said his organization plans to acquire a large stretch of land in the area for the establishment of a wood lot and community forestation projects.
Mr. Dowuona said two projects would cost the organization at least 20 million cedis and appealed to district assemblies in the Central Region, particularly the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly and donor organizations for financial and logistics support to facilitate the implementation of the projects.
He said the projects would create employment for more than 100 jobless youth in areas of the projects.
According to Mr. Dowuona, the Foundation also had a number of educational and health promotion programmes to augment the efforts of the district assembly transform the living conditions of the people in the coming years.
He called for co-operation, support and mutual understanding of all to ensure the success of the projects.
