The newly confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu, Madam Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, one of the few female nominees in the Volta region, has made a passionate and firm commitment to driving the district's development agenda by prioritising critical sectors and addressing the urgent needs of her people.

Speaking during her official assumption of office, Madam Doe described politics as fundamentally about development and meeting the essential needs of the people.

She pledged to assist President John Dramani Mahama in realising his bold and inclusive development agenda for the North Tongu District.

“As I take up this new responsibility, I am committed to working diligently with all stakeholders to address the pressing challenges in our district. Together, we will ensure that the people of North Tongu experience meaningful change,” she assured.

She acknowledged that North Tongu faces significant challenges, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, water and sanitation, and road infrastructure. Addressing these, she emphasised, is a shared responsibility that calls for unity and collaboration.

“I urge all of you, especially my esteemed chiefs, queens, assembly members, and the entire NPP party structure, to join hands with me in tackling these challenges. Together, we can improve the quality of life for our people,” Madam Doe urged.

In her remarks, the DCE outlined a series of ambitious yet crucial initiatives that align with the government’s broader development vision for North Tongu. These include:

  • Resettlement and Compensation for Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims: She emphasised the urgent need to provide relief and adequate resettlement for affected families following the spillage of the Akosombo Dam, which displaced thousands in low-lying communities.
  • Revival of the Juapong Textile Factory: Madam Doe expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the relevant ministries and agencies to revitalise the once-thriving Juapong Textile Factory, believing it will create jobs and rejuvenate the local economy.
  • Construction of the Dofor-Adidome Bridge: Recognising the economic and social importance of connectivity, the DCE stated that the proposed bridge will alleviate transportation difficulties and enhance access between Dofor, Adidome, and their surrounding communities.
  • Establishment of a Satellite Campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS): Madam Doe reiterated her commitment to realising this long-awaited project, which will bring higher education opportunities closer to residents in North Tongu.

“These projects are not just political promises; they are lifelines for our communities. I will prioritise them and ensure that they receive the attention they deserve,” she assured.

A call for unity and development

Madam Doe used the opportunity to rally support from all sectors of the district. She called on traditional leaders, political actors, and community members to set aside partisan interests and focus on development.

“Our people deserve better. With unity of purpose and a shared vision, we can build a North Tongu that thrives on progress, inclusivity, and opportunity for all,” she said.

The confirmation of Madam Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe as DCE comes as a welcome development to many in the district, particularly as the area looks forward to accelerated development and better representation.

Her tenure is expected to be marked by visible infrastructure improvements, social interventions, and a renewed commitment to grassroots empowerment.
