Ghana will soon have a new national carrier, that’s according to Transport Minister Mike Hammah.
The new airline is expected to start operations as early as March next year.
It is however unclear whether the new carrier would operate alongside a revamped Ghana International Airlines which is currently comatose as the minister had earlier communicated to Joy Business, or be the sole operator.
All the minister would say for now is that, government is yet to determine the future of GIA.
He maintains though that with commercial oil production to begin soon, the country cannot afford to be left out of the anticipated aviation boom.
Workers of the defunct national carrier, GIA are currently in court over the delay in the payment of their severance packages.
They were asked to go home earlier in the year after it became apparent that GIA may not be able to fly again in the immediate future.
It is still having to deal with a backlog of passengers that were left disappointed as a result.
