Twelve individuals have been inducted into the Institute of Information Management (IIM).
The induction took place at the IIM’s annual convention, induction and investiture at the GNAT Hall in Accra.
The theme for the event was ‘The data imperative: Programmes and strategies for compliance through adequate awareness creation.'
President of the Institute, Dr Oyedokun Ayodeji Oyewole underscored the importance of understanding the role of professionals in the information management field.
Ahead of the induction, he insisted that individuals prioritise value-addition to their bid to execute their mandate.
Dr Oyewole believes this will help provide solutions to teething challenges in the information management regime.
Technology is one of the ways this need could be met, he said, explaining that the job of managing information must not be left to IT experts alone, hence the need for IM professionals to upgrade.
Executive Director for the Data Protection Commission, Patricia Adusei Poku was one of the Honorary Fellows inducted on Saturday, October 29.
She presented a paper on the theme of the programme.
During her speech, she also expressed the need for Africa to wake up to the digital terrain revolving around the management of information.
According to Patricia Adusei Poku, the continent has the propensity to be left behind if the changes in technology are not embraced.
She further insisted that this must not be limited to the mere collection but also to the usage of this information to spur the growth of respective societies.
