The New Juaben Traditional Council at an emergency meeting held Wednesday, July, 29, has thrown its support behind the letter of protest written by the Omanhene and President of the Council, Daasebre Professor (Emeritus) Oti Boateng to the President of the National House of Chiefs.
In his letter, Daasebre Professor (Emeritus) Oti Boateng bemoaned “the deliberate attempt to exclude the New Juaben Traditional Area from the restructured Eastern Regional House of Chiefs (ERHC), and more particularly the capricious determination and selection of Divisional Chiefs amongst various paramountcies.”
In a press release signed by the acting President of the New Juaben Traditional Council, Nana Twumasi Dankwa, the Council said they support Daasebre Oti Boateng for holding the Regional House of Chiefs accountable and putting their actions under scrutiny.
“The office of the President of a Regional House of Chiefs is a public office governed by law and subject to public scrutiny. This is what Daasebre Oti Boateng has expertly done in the unjustifiable attempt to exclude this Traditional Area from the ERHC to which the Council wholeheartedly supports,” the statement read.
According to them, there is substance to the allegations Daasebre Oti Boateng leveled against President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, and are thus calling for the allegations to be addressed and for the right thing to be done.
“Daasebre’s letter argues that the President of ERHC truncated the normal process of building consensus in the House by failing to present such crucial issue to the whole House for debate before sending it to the National House of Chiefs.
“If this normal and pragmatic practice had been adopted, the New Juaben Traditional Council would have been informed to be represented through the Registry.”
But according to them, “The Traditional Council received no such invitation for the full House to meet on the issue thus giving credence to the allegation that the President of ERHC bypassed the whole House in submitting the memorandum on the issue to the National House.”
This, the Traditional Council considers to be the crux of the whole matter which must be redressed.
Meanwhile, they are calling for mutual respect and cooperation among all Paramount chiefs in the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to help move the Region forward.
