The Ghana Football Association(GFA) has told 54 members demanding a review of parts of the Statutes of the football governing body their resolution does not meet the requirements for an extraordinary congress.
According to the Ghana FA, some eight clubs, notably; Ebusua Dwarfs, Accra City Stars, King Faisal, Legon Cities, Berekum Chelsea, Skyy FC, Young Apostles, and Nzema Kotoko have withdrawn their signatures from the resolution for a review of the Statutes.
This means the quota required, per article 33(2), which states that only more than 50 per cent of congress can demand an extraordinary congress has not been met, thus, their request has been rejected as only 46 signatories are left on the petition.
The members of the FA in their resolution demand that the FA "consider and delete article 81 and in particular 81(6) from the 2019 GFA Statutes
2. To consider and delete article 39(k) from the 2019 GFA Statutes.
3. To consider and approve an amendment of article 27 by adding a new article 27(q) as follows:
To approve and issue regulations for the organization of all competitions of the GFA.
The members also noted in their resolution, the new competition born from the new pyramid, is not recognised by the Statutes. It added that it's wrong to equate delegates to clubs, and requested that all the electoral college is expanded.
They argued that it's only Division One Clubs that have a delegate each at the congress, and it should not be whittled down to 18.
These request were immediately discussed on the FA Executive Council WhatsApp group, where sources told JoySports the demands " were too many."
After weeks of deliberations, the FA President, Kurt Okraku, after speaking to a number of members has indicated that the "Executive Council should have a second look at the new pyramid after further engagement with Division One League Clubs."
The football association in their acknowledgement of the resolution advised members to disregard claims that, the new pyramid will have division one clubs relegated to division two, and admonished members 'propagating' the claims to stop 'the falsehood misinformation'.
JoySports checks with some of the clubs mentioned to have withdrawn their signatories revealed that, they have not communicated anything of that sort to the FA, while some confirmed withdrawing from the resolution.
Some clubs claim to have received phone calls from the Secretariat admonishing them to withdraw their signatures.
