The new 31 district assemblies would have to share facilities with existing assemblies until such time that they are able to provide their own, Mr Fats Teye Nartey, Greater Accra Regional Coordinator, has said.
He said the situation had become necessary due to lack of funds for the construction of new offices and other facilities.
Mr Nartey said even though it was required that every district assembly should have its own administrative offices, building new offices for all the new assemblies before taking off involved a lot of money hence the support for them.
He said this when he inspected facilities at the newly created Ashaiman Municipality.
Mr Nartey said new municipal assemblies such as Ashaiman that had existing zonal council offices would have to temporarily operate from those facilities until a permanent structure is constructed.
He said Ledzekuku-Krowor and Weija/Ga South would have to acquire temporary buildings to serve as the administrative offices as there are no existing zonal council offices.
In addition to the offices, the existing metropolitan assemblies would provide logistics and personnel to the assemblies created out of them.
Assuring the new assemblies of the readiness of the GH¢30,000 seed money, Mr Nartey stated that the money was ready and would be handed over to the assemblies in due time to facilitate a smooth take off.
