Ambrose Dery, the Upper West Regional Minister, at the weekend refuted rumours making rounds in the region that the NPP government was coming out with a new currency in order to empower them to win the 2008 general elections.
"Coming out with a new currency is an economic policy necessary for the entire country and so people peddling these lies are trying to use cheap propaganda to win the sympathy of the people out there."
Mr. Dery, who said this during a rally organized by the Lawra/Nandom constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged party supporters to ignore such lies and falsehood and rededicate themselves towards the development of the entire nation.
"Do not allow such few liars to derail your attention from all the good things that the NPP government is carrying out throughout the country."
He said the NPP would continue to use all the legitimate and constitutional means to win elections and would therefore not be detracted by "the wild goose chase campaigning strategies" of their opponents.
Mr Dery said the NPP government had done enough in terms of development and would ride on the back of such success to win subsequent elections.
Mr. Dery appealed to party members to be resolute in the discharge of their duties and expose all the lies.
Stephen Engmen, Special Assistant to the Regional Minister, said the days of promises and threats were over and urged the constituents to judge the parties by their performance and capabilities and not vain promises that would never come.
