The Managing Director of ACTIVA Insurance Ghana, Solomon Lartey has revealed that among other insurance services, the newly launched ACTIVA Online (AOL) platform will allow the insurance public to access loans for the payment of their premiums.
After the introduction of the No-Premium-No-Cover by the National Insurance Commission, the upfront payment or purchase of insurance became a challenge for a section of the public – a situation which partly contributed to the only 30% insured public.
But according to Mr Lartey, the introduction of the digital platform seeks to provide simplified access to insurance products as part of efforts to increase insurance penetration.
“We have pre-arranged partnerships with some financial institutions and the banks who would finance your premium because you know in Ghana we have No-Premium-No-Cover, as a result, you cannot buy insurance without first paying for it so the bank will pay fully for you; you pay maybe a very small portion and then the rest bank spreads it overtime for you.”
The AOL is made up of an online portal, a mobile app and a USSD code. It will provide simplified access to all insurance products and services accompanied by a free delivery of policy documents upon request.
The ACTIVA Insurance MD says his outfit welcomes government’s quest to introduce a universal QR code which seeks to synchronize and simplify financial transactions. Either *713*313# or www.activa-ghana.com make the services accessible.
The Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, Michael Andoh lauded ACTIVA for the innovation and has urged insurance companies to ensure the security of their digitised products to protect their clients.
The Ghana Police, through the MTTD, says it has endorsed the portal as well as new developments in the insurance sector. It has pledged its continuous support to the NIC’s quest to eliminate fake motor insurance stickers through the newly introduced Motor Insurance Database.
