Captain J.J. Schutte, Officer Commanding SAS MENDI, a South African Naval Vessel, on Friday stressed the need for Ghana and South Africa to strengthen joint military co-operation between them.
Addressing a press conference at Tema Harbour where the ship berthed from Brazil, Capt. Schutte said military exchange programme would lead to strengthening of friendship bonds between them.
Mr Rapu Molekane, South Africa's High Commissioner to Ghana, hoped the existing cordial relations between both countries would be strengthened for the mutual benefit of their people.
The vessel named after the original SS MENDI, a troop ship that sank during the First World War has a 141-member crew and expected to return home on Sunday, September 23.
