Nduom: CPP getting stronger

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Presidential Candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), says the CPP is stronger now than before, and the party is poised to win more seats in this year’s parliamentary election. He said the party in the past had to beg people to stand on its parliamentary tickets, but this year, solid individuals like bankers, medical doctors and very credible people are offering themselves up to stand on the party’s ticket. Dr. Nduom was speaking during an interview on TV3 Sunday evening, March 17, 2008. He said confidently, “We shall win the Offinso North seat which is to be vacated by Dr. Kofi Apraku.” He said many young people have also found the party attractive since his election and they are joining the party. Dr. Nduom said the CPP as a party in power was not removed from office through the ballot box, but by force through a military coup. He argued that when the CPP was in power, the party created more jobs for the people. He said most of the people they have encountered during their tours in the regions are discovering their heritage in the CPP as the party that creates jobs for the people. “Even though there are claims of change in Ghana, the people say they are not feeling the change in their pockets”, and they believe the CPP is the party to bring that real change into their lives and they would vote for the CPP, he said. On the number of ministers to run his government, he said when he is elected as president, he would run the business of state with not more than 40 ministers. Dr. Nduom said, he knows the importance of technology and he would deploy technological innovations in running government business to make things run faster and better. Dr. Nduom who has toured all the ten regions, says the people have noticed the vibrancy and good leadership of the CPP. Dr. Nduom who left a lucrative job with Deloitte and Touche to enter politics is also a business man with investments in the hospitality industry. He started his political career as an Assembly Man, he moved on and entered Parliament as the Member of Parliament for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) Constituency on the ticket of the CPP. He subsequently served as a minister in the Kufuor Administration in the Energy, NEPAD and Public Sector Reform Ministries. He was elected as the Presidential Candidate of the CPP at the party’s Congress in Kumasi on December 17th, 2007. By Emmanuel K. Dogbevi
