The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has inaugurated campaign teams in all 18 constituencies in the region.
The teams have been urged to stand up for the country against possible manipulation of the electoral process and intimidation of voters.
This message was contained in a speech read on behalf of the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress John Mahama, by the former Minister Clement Kofi Humado at Ho Central and Agortime Ziope constituencies.
He stated in the speech that, the party has arrived at a critical junction in its efforts to rally human and material resources for the formation of a robust and effective campaign structure.
They believe it will respond efficiently to the prevailing dynamics of the political system in its quest for victory in the December general elections.
"This is not merely a race to office but it is a race to save the very soul of mother Ghana," he added.
The Anlo MP urged members of the campaign team to know that they have a duty to pull Ghana back from the brink of disaster.
"This should be a rescue mission by the team to alleviate hardship, suffering, corruption and collapse of the nation's democratic institutions and also to restore hope and confidence in the future," he said.
He noted that the NDC remains the most successful political party in the history of Ghana insisting the party has won four out of the seven presidential elections since the advent of the fourth republic.
As a Social Democratic Party, the NDC is committed to serving all Ghanaians without preference or prejudice.
The appointment of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate is proof that the NDC is genuinely inclusive according to the team.
Historically the NDC has a lot to show when it comes to removing gender discrimination and putting women at the forefront of leadership" he said.
According to the former President , the party's free primary health care plan will guarantee a healthy people and provide a healthy workforce needed to accelerate development.
He said that ,the next NDC administration will build a peaceful, secure, and robust economy that provides jobs through a transformed industrialized and digital economy.
Mr Mahama said his administration will reinforce the Independence of state institutions and launch an anti -corruption crusade that fights against all corrupt political appointees and public sector.
"We will reduce the 'elephantine' size of government and channel the savings into areas far more productive than providing these ministers with the unnecessary privileges they currently enjoy"he said
Speaking further, he said the 2020 elections will be a referendum on the four years of the Akufo Addo presidency adding it will be a referendum on a term of a presidency who has no real solutions for Ghana.
The MP for Ho Central, Benjamin Kpodo also urged members to be well organized to make the campaign a success.
The Agortime Ziope MP Charles Agbeve also encouraged members to do more of door to door and house to house campaign to ensure victory for the NDC in the December general elections.
