Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Solomon Nkansah admits that while the party has neglected veteran Highlife musician Jewel Ackah, it is not deliberate.
According to him, the musician feels neglected because the party’s immediate focus is to reorganize itself to come back into power.
The musician, who composed the party’s official anthem titled “Arise Arise’ in an interview accused the party of neglect, especially during his time of ailment and distress.
This interview with Kofi Adoma on Kofi TV, after it went viral, compelled Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of a fast emerging media enterprise, Zylofon media to respond to his distress call with an amount of $10,000.
Speaking to MzGee in an exclusive interview at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka in Accra, Solomon Nkansah, claimed the party had extended a helping hand to the musician in the past.
According to him, he may feel abandoned currently because the party has a lot on its plate.
“Jewel as I know, will never say that the NDC has not done anything. What he will say is that, he feels abandoned; something I share in. You’ll agree with me that the NDC has come out of a very harrowing situation.
“Look at the elections we just came out of, our major preoccupation has been how to put ourselves together, how to make sure that we right the internal wrongs; how to sharpen all the rough edges, and ready ourselves for power…
“We might have reneged on our regular responsibilities, of visiting our ailing, sage, disadvantaged and marginalized heroes,” he stated.
He further added that, “It will not be farfetched if Jewel says he feels abandoned at this time, but while we were in government up till now, he’s been taken care of.”
The NDC Communications Officer was of the opinion that the ‘Mesan Mako’ hit maker was being compelled to make such sentimental claims as a result of the state of trauma in which he finds himself.
