Actor-turned-politician Fred Nuamah has dropped out of the NDC parliamentary primaries for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

Calling the decision personal in a letter addressed to the party, he noted that his withdrawal was reached after extensive consultations with key stakeholders and without any external influence.

“I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general elections. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party's unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country,” Mr Nuamah wrote.

The movie producer thanked his fans and all well-wishers for their support adding that he is grateful for the time spent with them all.

While announcing his withdrawal from the race, Mr Nuamah threw his support behind John Dumelo his biggest competitor in the battle for the Ayawaso West Wuogon candidacy and called on his followers to do the same.

“I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo, to be the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency,” Mr Nuamah wrote.

He added “I urge all my supporters across all levels of the party in the constituency to rally behind John Dumelo and provide him with needed support. Together, with a renewed sense of togetherness, we can secure victory in the 2024 elections and uplift our nation from its current state.”

In March, Ghanaians were taken aback by the news that Fred Nuamah and John Dumelo would be battling for the NDC parliamentary candidacy for Ayawaso West Wuogon ahead of the 2024 general election.

Fred Nuamah announced his intention to contest first and days later John Dumelo made known his.

Although Fred Nuamah announced his intention first, many advised him to step down for his colleague who had already represented the party in 2020.

Fred Nuamah accused John Dumelo of bad faith as he alleged that he had the blessings of his friend to contest the polls.

But John Dumelo in a UTV interview dismissed the claims, calling Fred Nuamah a liar.

He disclosed that at no point did Fred Nuamah hold a conversation with him over his interest in the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.

Despite the tension, Mr Nuamah was assured that their friendship will not be harmed.

However, the party in April suspended the vetting of the candidates ahead of the parliamentary primaries. The election in the constituency was also suspended.
