Alhaji Iddrisu Mahama, a Presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Congress has urged other aspirants to re-energise and unify the party to win power in 2008, instead of making false allegations against each other.
He stressed the need for the aspirants to inculcate self-confidence and respect for each other to solve problems and adopt a decisive approach in campaign strategies to win the 2008 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Alhaji Mahama made the call when addressing supporters and members of Ablekuma District Co-ordinating Committee of NDC in Accra.
He pledged his commitment to the Party and whoever emerged the flagbearer and urged activists and supporters of NDC to strengthen the branches and start campaigning from now because Ghana could only be saved from her socio-economic problems by an NDC Government and not a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government.
Alhaji Mahama said "If you are committed, angry and hungry for power NPP would not rig the elections. Before we could win there should not be any confusion among ourselves."
Mr Haruna Iddrisu, National Youth Organiser of NDC, expressed concern about the increasing rate of petty squabbles among constituency executives in the Greater Accra Region, which had affected activities of the Party.
He said without a change in such attitudes, the branches would not realize the need to work hard, which was the only way to remove NPP from power, adding “The success of NDC would come from Greater Accra and urged the branches to direct their energies against the NPP.”
Mr Iddrisu who is also the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, cautioned the electorate against retaining NPP in power during the 2008 elections adding “That would amount to sentencing themselves to more hardship and anguish.”
He said NPP had come to the end of the road because its policies to inject sanity into the economy and alleviate poverty among the people had rather impoverished them.
Mr Iddrisu said the people were witnesses to the country's current socio economic development, which were worse than before and called on the electorate to weigh development carefully and make informed choices in December 2008.
Mr Tackie Kommey, Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency said with effective organization throughout the country, NDC would win power in 2008.
Mr Danny Annan, NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman, urged the committee members to work hard and win power in 2008.
The committee members for the three Parliamentary seats in Ablekuma are Alhaji Yusif Adisa, Coordinator and Mr Eben Nii Okaikoi, Secretary.
The other members are Kwame Sangari, Seth Quartey, Mrs Diana Twum, Ayensu William, Wisdom Dodoo, Theophilus Chaie, Peter Quarshie, Ellen Okine, Courage Barlon, Nat Addo, Enoch Ayim, Sidi Bashiru and Bridgit Gordon.
