The National Democratic Congress has opened nominations for interested members to contest the party's parliamentary seats in the constituencies.
Alhaji Alhassan Tabsoba, member of the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee, who announced said a circular on the nominations had been issued to all constituencies.
He was addressing the opening session of a forum organized by the Bekwai constituency of the party to mark the 15th anniversary celebration of the party at Bekwai on Thursday.
However, Alhaji Tabsoba did not state when the party's primaries to elect parliamentary candidates would begin but asked constituency executives to search for credible, capable and dedicated persons who would win the seats for the party in the 2008 elections.
He expressed concern about bickering and back biting in the party and stressed the need for unity and teamwork, if the party wanted to win the elections.
Alhaji Tabsoba said victory of the party in the 2008 elections depended on the branch and ward executives and urged them to re-organize the structures in their areas and work hard to win more supporters and sympathisers for the party.
He announced that Professor Evans John Atta Mills, the party's flagbearer for 2008 would begin a tour of the Ashanti region from July this year and urged the branch executives to be committed to work to ensure total victory for the party.
Alhaji Alhassan Ibn Ibrahim, Ashanti Regional Secretary of Zongo Caucus of the party, stressed the need for effective re-organization of the party in the region and urged members to reconcile with all aggrieved members and work together to win more supporters for the party.
He said in view of the current problems facing the nation, NDC had the greatest opportunity to market itself and win the hearts of the electorate.
Alhaji Ibrahim said Ghanaians were yearning for the NDC to return to power to continue with its good works and appealed to the security agencies to be vigilant during the 2008 elections to prevent possible rigging by the ruling party.
Mr Owusu Boateng, Founding member of the party urged the branch executives to rededicate themselves to the cause of the party.
Alhaji Musah Sualisu, Bekwai constituency chairman of the party, said the world was looking for NDC to win the 2008 elections.
He said there was the need for greater support and cooperation from all members to achieve the task ahead of the party in 2008.
