The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially outdoored its presidential running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for the 2024 December general elections.
The event took place at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday, April 24.
Several key dignitaries including Members of Parliament of the NDC, the National Chairman, the General Secretary, the Council of Elders, and stalwarts of the party, among others, converged at UPSA to introduce Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Delivering a speech at the event, the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said that outdooring Prof Opoku-Agyemang is a significant step forward for her to support the party’s flagbearer in bringing relief and hope to Ghanaians.

He emphasised that in the last eight years, the vice presidential office, which Prof Opoku-Agyemang is poised to assume, has reached its lowest level.
Mr Kwetey argued that the office has become an epitome of deception, lack of credibility, lack of trustworthiness, corruption, and governance that is perceived as a joke, filled with false promises and lies.
“In you Naana Jane, we see an individual who is not just about integrity, but an individual who will help to restore the office to the place it used to be. …. The place where John Dramani Mahama took that office when he became the Vice President of this country,” he said.
He reiterated that the vice presidential office has become a disgrace and emphasised that with Prof Opoku-Aguyemang's arrival, the office will be restored to its place of honour.
Also speaking at the introduction event, the former President and flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama said that Ghana urgently needs leadership that inspires trust and belief in a better future.
“Ghana needs a leadership that will place value on integrity, truth and accountability. Ghana needs a leadership that will roll up its sleeves and accept responsibility for our current reality and face the current storm stoically, and steer the ship of state into safer and calmer waters,” he said.
Mr Mahama stated that the next four years will be pivotal for the nation’s destiny, and each passing day without urgent action will further hinder the progress needed to propel the nation forward.
He said if there was any indication of intent to think outside the box, to be innovative, and to use the best human resources to deliver the ‘Ghana We Want’, then it is in his choice of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate.
“As my running mate and potential Vice President of Ghana going into the 2024 general elections, I do not doubt this as a globally acclaimed credential attests to that. Naana Jane is a woman of unquestionable integrity and whose reputation for honest and ethical behaviour is unparalleled.”
He expressed confidence in Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang's ability to bring honesty and accountability back to the office of the Vice President.
“With Naana Jane as my Vice President, Ghana can be assured that an NDC government led by me [President John Dramani Mahama] will fight corruption and restore the absence of accountability that is the current hallmark of this government.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure transparency, accountability and justice for all and not just a few,” the NDC flagbearer added.
