General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on a mission to delay the December polls.
According to him, the party's stance concerning the new voters’ register is ‘parochial’ as the NPP rather has a lot to lose should the new voters’ register be done.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront with Winston Amoah, John Boadu said the NDC had deployed several delay tactics to stall the passing of the Constitutional Instrument to approve the New Voter’s register.
“You [the NDC] were given the opportunity to be part of the discussion for the amendment of the CI, you boycotted it. The amendment was taken to a committee that you have members on it.
“About two, three months ago, you sat on your right you did not say anything at the amendment, you waited two months after before you held a press conference to state your position.”
John Boadu said should the NDC’s point of view be taken into consideration now that the CI has been passed, it might lead to the bill being withdrawn. A move he says will push the election date to January.
“What it means is that we have to withdraw the CI that has spent some days in Parliament, re-craft and send it back to Parliament to let it run for an additional 21 days that’ll get us the CI maturing in around August.
"Even if you get to do limited registration exercise, it will take another 30 days around September … so your elections will be held in January,” he said.
