Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has dismissed claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the NDC authored a document outlining strategies to win the 2024 elections.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsnight on Wednesday, October 23, Mr Gbande categorically denied the existence of such a document, calling the allegation a fabrication.

“The NDC has not authored any document,” Gbande said, emphasizing that the party’s strategy for the upcoming election is not something that would be made into a “printable document.”

He stressed that the NDC’s focus remains on winning the elections in the interest of Ghanaians.

His comments follow allegations by the NPP that the NDC has devised a coordinated plan, documented in a strategy paper, titled “Winning the 2024 Elections and Beyond: A Comprehensive NDC Strategy" to disrupt government business and gain an upper hand in the 2024 elections.

Mr Gbande argued that the NPP’s claims are an attempt to shift public discourse away from growing backlash against the government.

“There is a backlash against the NPP and government, and a shame has befallen the Judiciary, with judges being seen as politically motivated. Given this backlash, the NPP would concoct documents to change the media narrative and cover up the reality,” he stated.

He further accused the NPP of seeking to uncover the NDC’s election strategy through dubious means.

“The NPP is paying people to try and find out what our strategy is. I’ll tell Ahiagbah and Akufo-Addo for free: we are vigilant. We are committed to winning the election, and we are ready. We also have elements of revenge for what was done to us in the last election,” he added.
