The National Council of Parents-Teacher Associations (NCPTA-Ghana) has clarified that the approved Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) dues and levies remain GH¢200 per parent per semester.

The amount comprises GH¢50 in PTA dues and GH¢150 as a levy, with the dues intended to support administrative activities and the levy used to finance projects undertaken by PTAs in schools.

President of the NCPTA-Ghana, Christian Aikins Atsu, said PTAs seeking to collect amounts above the approved GH¢200 must first obtain clearance from the national leadership of the association.

He said the decision was reached at an Extraordinary National Conference of the NCPTA-Ghana held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall from August 25 to 27, 2026.

Mr Atsu disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in response to concerns over alleged unauthorised and excessive collections by some PTAs across the country.

He also cautioned PTA executives against allowing school heads to influence them to use unauthorised receipts or NCPTA receipt books to collect money from parents, warning that such practices could undermine the credibility of PTA executives and damage the image of the association.

The NCPTA-Ghana President urged PTA executives to comply strictly with the approved charges, ensure that every payment is properly receipted and maintain accurate accounts of funds collected.

He also encouraged parents and guardians asked to pay amounts above the approved figure to seek clarification from the appropriate PTA executives.

Mr Atsu said the NCPTA-Ghana remained committed to strengthening collaboration among parents, teachers and school authorities as part of efforts to improve the quality of education in Ghana.
