The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has outlined a citizen centered programme to engage Ghanaians on Civic Rights and Responsibilities for the year 2021.
The Commission's programme on the theme “We are one, Ghana First" is to remind Ghanaians of the essence of togetherness and national cohesion for nation-building.
In a press statement signed by the Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Asare Akuamoah, the NCCE said it will continue to sensitise citizens on the need to be responsible and patriotic.
“It is only prudent that the Commission champions a national agenda of reviving patriotism, nationalism and political tolerance among the good people of Ghana.” the letter stated.
According to the letter, this year’s programme is centered on the following areas of national interest; Covid-19 Education in Schools and Public Places, Education on Administration of Covid-19 Vaccine, The role of Members of Parliament, Political Tolerance during and after the 2021 Election Petition, Respect and Uphold the Integrity of the Judicial System, Responsible Media and Respect for Media Freedom, Violence Extremism and Data Protection Education.
On the aspect of Covid-19 Education in Schools and Public places, the Commission is set to create public awareness of Covid-19 with messages centered on the strict adherence of Covid-19 safety protocols.
“NCCE, within its limited resources will design and distribute posters, flyers, stickers and other civic education materials to students to constantly alert pupils and students of the pandemic which remains a global health crisis.”
The Commission is further determined to promote responsible journalism, respect for media freedoms and value the element of free speech that the 1992 Constitution of Ghana guarantees the people of Ghana on the counts of Responsible Media and Respect for Media Freedom.
On the topic on Violence Extremism, The Commission together with the European Union and National Security has targeted regions and communities with reported incidents of violent extremism activities to intensify public education.
NCCE, further charged all Ghanaians to promote Civic Education in every sphere of life by partaking in the programme which is facilitated by Civic Educators across the length and breaths of the Country.
