The National Communications Authority (NCA) has denied reports that it has ordered an Accra-based radio station, Choice FM, to shut down.
Rather, the authority says, it only instructed the station to renew its operating license within three weeks.
Reports hit the wires earlier this week that the Accra-based station faced imminent closure following an NDC directive that it shuts down on expired license claims.
The NCA’s Director of Legal Services, Mrs Abena Asarfo Adjei, said similar directives have been issued to several other stations.
She said failure to comply could result in the shutdown of the stations.
Mrs Adjei said stations that failed to comply with the directive faced tough punishment including seizure of their frequencies.
“We hope they will comply with the three-week ultimatum otherwise we have sanctions that we apply,” she said.
