The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, has clarified the role of National Service personnel in the operationalisation of the "Operation Clean Your Frontage", on February 1.
In a statement issued on January 31, he explained that contrary to the narrative in the public, National Service personnel are to enhance publicity on the new policy, and not take part in the cleaning.
"My attention has been drawn to an unfortunate propaganda that our National Service personnel will be responsible for the cleaning on the 1st of February to mark the operationalisation of the 'Operation Clean Your Frontage' Bye-Law. For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state that the involvement of the National Service personnel in this exercise is not for Clean-up as some have unfortunately misconstrued, but to assist with the sensitisation of the general public on the rollout of the Bye-Law", portions of the statement read.
Mr. Henry Quartey added that, "we have graciously received confirmation of about 15,000 National Service personnel, over 2,000 men and women drawn from the Security services, and about 2,000 YEA and Zoomlion workers, joining the RCC, together with 13 Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies for a massive sensitisation drive to mark the commencement of the "Operation Clean Your Frontage" Bye-Law, from the early hours of Tuesday 1st February, 2022, in the heart of the city".
Touching on the level of preparation ahead of the exercise, Mr. Henry Quartey disclosed that his outfit has confirmed the support of the clergy and the business community to make the exercise a success.
He also called on all city dwellers to throw their weight behind the policy.
The 'Operation Clean Your Frontage', is part of efforts by the Greater Accra Regional Minister in dealing with the sanitation crisis in the capital. According to him, the initiative will help deal decisively with the sanitation menace.
