After a successful hosting of the Ghana Grand Prix, the national athletics team is counting on its participation at this month’s World Athletics Championship to put up an impressive performance and win medals at the All Africa Games to be held in Mozambique.
The team of 16 athletes will emplane to Korea on Saturday to prepare for the World Championship which begins on August 27 in Daegu.
General Secretary of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseni believes the World Championship will put the athletes in top shape for the All Africa Games.
He told JOY Sports’ Dennis Mirpuri, “it will affect their performance positively because they will have consistency in their training and competition. After the World Championships, they have another serious competition. That alone is a very good thing for them because for athletics, if you don’t perform consistently, you can’t get your shape very well.”
Ghana’s contingent will then fly back to Maputo for the All Africa Games on September 4. The team produced sterling performances during a recent tour of Finland and the Ghana Grand Prix.
