The CEO of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) has urged media organisations to focus on projecting the positive aspects of state-owned institutions rather than running them down.
Prof. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah while addressing staff at Ejisu during the launch of the Service's 20th anniversary, stated that he is not asking the media to ignore any misconduct within state institutions.
Instead, he advocates for a balanced approach that also highlights their accomplishments.
"There are many positive things achieved by the National Ambulance Service, yet the media often focuses on negative stories," he noted.
He highlighted the growth of NAS from seven pilot ambulance stations to 297 stations with a fleet of 307 ambulances.
Prof. Zakariah addressed recent media reports about a NAS ambulance found in Dubai, clarifying that it has returned along with 23 new Toyota Hiace Advanced Life Support Ambulances.
"We have a country to build. Ghana is the only country we have, and we shouldn’t destroy the system. I urge the media to help us build this system by focusing on the positives of the National Ambulance Service to boost public confidence," he said.
He also highlighted the critical role of NAS in the emergency care delivery system, calling for the support of Ghanaians to elevate its services.
Established in 2004, NAS has grown into a reputable institution providing excellent emergency healthcare in Ghana.
To celebrate its achievements, the Service has planned a series of anniversary activities under the theme "Two Decades of Life-Saving Journey: Celebrating Resilience in Ghana’s Pre-Hospital Emergency Care."
