The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr George Hikah Benson, has praised the chiefs and people of the Nandom Traditional Area for the relative peace in the communities.
He reminded them that peace and unity constituted the greatest assets a people could ever have, and appealed to them to build on the peaceful atmosphere they were enjoying to attract investors to the area to create jobs for the youth.
Mr Benson was addressing the chiefs and people of the Nandom Traditional Area at this year's Kakube Festival held at Nandom on Sunday, which was well attended with a delegation from neighbouring Burkina Faso.
"Kakube" marks the end of the traditional calendar and it is also a period to offer thanks for the good yield during the harvesting season.
Mr Benson asked the people to use the occasion to take stock of on-going development projects in the area, especially that of education, religion, modern health delivery systems and tourism.
He said government was determined to support in the development of these facilities to improve the living conditions of the people in the area.
He said government would support the district assembly under the sanitation module of the National Youth and Employment Programme (NYEP) and self-help electrification project of the Rural Electrification Programme to enhance general development of the Nandom township as well as improving its environmental sanitation.
The Nandom Naa, Puoure Puobe Chiir VII, thanked the government for providing the area with its fair share of development projects such as schools, roads, health infrastructure as well as social facilities.
He appealed for the creation of a separate constituency for the Nandom Traditional Area and also the construction of the Kamba dam to engage the youth in agricultural activities all year round.
Naa Chiir reminded the people of the law on bush burning and warned that anybody caught burning would be dealt with according to the law.
