Hiplife artiste Nana Boroo is used to performing his hit song, Aha Yede with a variety of backup singers, however, the National Coordinator of the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), Mrs Constance Bart Plange, offered to back him up when he called on her last Monday.
The visit was to officially inform her as well as brief officials of his involvement so far in the fight against malaria.
According to him, the decision to champion the campaign was as a result of his passion to see a reduction in malaria related deaths in the country.
Nana Boroo who expressed delight at being associated with the project said he was glad communities in the remotest parts of the country were gradually warming up towards the use of the treated insecticide nets and pledged to further expand the frontiers of the campaign to all district capitals nation-wide.
Aha Yede, Ntomtom Bewu (Mosquitoes will die), the remixed version of the song launched in June this year as the campaign song was aimed at encouraging more people to sleep under insecticide treated mosquito net.
The programme dubbed “Aha yede” and initiated by Promoting Malaria Prevention and Treatment (PROMPT) Ghana, in association with the United States Agency for International Development (DSAID), the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), officials say would see the distribution of some 3.4 million long lasting insecticide nets (LLINs) nation-wide.
Mrs Bart Plange who commended the initiative of using music as a medium to encourage people to accept the use of treated mosquito nets charged Showbiz personalities to use their influence towards disease eradication in their communities and beyond.
According to her, lifestyle choices of such persons go greatly to influence society's ways of doing things, thus their involvement in such positive campaigns.
