The 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Daniel Kwaku Mensah has expressed strong opposition to the unilateral decision taken by the National President to proceed with the vetting for the position of General Secretary scheduled for March 21, 2025.
In a communiqué issued on Thursday, March 20, Mr Mensah claimed that the decision was made without the prior knowledge or consultation of the National Executive Council (NEC), a move that he argues goes against the principles outlined in the NALAG Constitution.
"This decision, taken unilaterally, contravenes (Article 16 clause 1) in the legal provisions of the Association’s Constitution, which mandates that such processes be conducted with the full participation and endorsement of the NEC to ensure transparency, fairness, and adherence to due process."
He called on the National President to immediately halt the vetting process and respect the constitutional provisions that are central to good governance, inclusivity, and respect for the Association's established legal framework.
"I, therefore, call on the National President to immediately halt this individualistic action and adhere to the principles of good governance, inclusivity, and respect for our Association’s established legal framework."
He added, "The credibility and integrity of NALAG must be preserved through adherence to our constitutional processes."
The decision to proceed with the vetting process without consultation has raised concerns within NALAG and prompted calls for transparency and inclusivity in all decision-making processes.
According to him, his concern is aimed to ensure that the interests of all members are respected and that the principles of fair governance are upheld within the Association.
He emphasised by calling on stakeholders to "Remain vigilant and committed to upholding the democratic principles that govern our esteemed Association."
