The Ghana National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has intensified its calls for the removal of the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Smile Gavua Dzisi.
Addressing the media at a press conference in Accra, NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu argued that Prof Dzisi’s appointment was politically motivated and that she does not merit the position.
“The reason is that Prof Smile Dzisi Gavua is not a practitioner within the Ghana Education Service and has not risen through the ranks of any of the pre-tertiary agencies to the rank that is deserving of the appointment that is given to her.
We hear that Prof Smile Dzisi Gavua was once a rector of the Koforidua Technical University. But, being a rector of a university does not necessarily mean that you have the educational competencies, or you are an educationist”.
Mr Carbonu further stated that suitable candidates are available for the position and the association will not back down until their petition is addressed, warning that they will take stronger action if necessary.
“There are several people who have risen through the ranks, who have improved themselves academically within the Ghana Education Service, who can be appointed by the government. Well, we have not gotten any response yet. Now, we will call another press conference to tell them our next line of action”.
