The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has called on stakeholders in the construction industry to play their roles appropriately to ensure that building projects and drainage systems were properly done.
This would help reduce disasters including flooding, which often lead to the destruction of property and lives.
Mrs. Vivian Akumia, Kumasi Metropolitan Co-ordinator of NADMO, made the call during a day’s tour of some flood prone areas to identify poor drainage systems as a result of poor construction in the metropolis.
Places she visited included, Ahodwo, Daban, TUC and South Junction, Denyame, Airport Roundabout, Anyinam, Mossi Zongo and Atonsu.
Mrs. Akumia called for the education of land developers on the need to acquire building plots through the appropriate authority.
She said “NADMO would always provide relief items and do what is necessary but city engineers as well as building or land authorities would also have to do their jobs properly”.
