The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has advocated for the National Builders Corps (NaBCo) Module Implementation Partners (MIPs) to prioritise the employment of trainees on the Scheme.

While appreciative of the contribution of MIPs to the Scheme, the President said the trainees deserve to be rewarded and there is no better way to do that than to employ them.

Speaking at a programme to review the activities of the Scheme a year after its implementation, President Akufo-Addo said “thus far, the NaBCo Module Implementation Partners have fulfilled their part of the bargain.

“I commend them for their partnership on the Scheme and will appeal to them to recognise and reward the sacrifices made by trainees. They should be the first to be considered when opportunities for permanent employment come up,” he added.

NaBCo was established to help address challenges facing critical sectors of the economy while providing unemployed graduates with jobs partly due to a ban on public sector employment imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Last year, the initiative was launched by President Akufo-Addo as part of the government’s vision to provide jobs for unemployed graduates in the country.

Government said 100,000 graduates had been employed in the first year of the programme.

President Akufo-Addo urged the NaBCo trainees to continue to seize the moment and opportunities offered by the Scheme to develop themselves.

“As a trainee, your NaBCo story must be one of continual growth. It is our hope that you transition smoothly into the desired career path as a result of the value addition being derived from the scheme.”

He indicated that as Ghana’s economy continues to grow rapidly as a result of competent management and appropriate policies, many more employment opportunities will be generated.

“Through what we collectively aspire to achieve and the steps currently being taken, I am left in no doubt that we can be a nation reliant on the creativity, hard work, sense of enterprise and spirit of innovation.

“We can move Ghana to a situation beyond aid i.e. a Ghana that has discarded a mindset of aid, dependency, charity and hand-outs.”

Self-reliance, President Akufo-Addo believes can be achieved if Ghana charts a path of self-reliance for her progress and prosperity, grounded on an intelligent discipline use of human and material resources.
