Healthcare advocacy group, Mytle Health has donated an undisclosed amount of money to the Medical and Therapeutic Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
According to the founding partner of Mytle Health, Kojo De-Graft, the donation is to fund the purchase of at least 60 mattresses to expand the hospital's capacity and facilitate the swift transition of patients from the Emergency Unit to proper wards.
Speaking during the donation on Friday, February 16, he explained that originally the group intended to assist families in clearing medical bills but decided to donate cash to the hospital to address a more pressing need and bring an end to the ‘no bed syndrome.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to making a lasting impact on healthcare access,” he said.
Whilst receiving the donation, the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at KBTH, Augusta Aninakwah Gyimah expressed her appreciation to Mytle Health.
She stressed that the support was timely as it would help the medical block to address its major issue and improve the quality of healthcare delivery.
In 2018, the term "No bed syndrome" emerged which described the critical shortage of beds and mattresses in healthcare facilities across the country, leading to numerous patients being denied necessary care.
