A bizarre incident has unfolded in the farming community of Adumadum in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, where Yaw-Pani Kwadwo, a farmer, went to the farm and returned without his farm hand.
The suspect engaged the services of a 23-year-old farm hand, Kwame Amela to his farm but returned alone the next day, six days ago.
Madam Ama Abakoni, the mother of the victim shared an account of the events leading up to her son’s disappearance.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Abakoni revealed that her son was invited by the suspect’s wife to accompany her husband to the farm.
“She came and called my son, saying that her husband wanted him to escort him to the farm, my son went with him, and I was expecting them to return in the evening,” she said.
Concerned about her son’s safety, she went to the suspect’s house to inquire about her son’s whereabouts, adding that, Yaw-Pani’s wife confirmed that they had not returned until the next day at about 1000hours, when the suspect emerged without the farm hand.
Madam Abakoni and her family have taken formal action regarding the disappearance of the missing young man by lodging an official complaint at the Tokuroano Police Station, prompting a swift response from the law enforcement authorities.
A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer was dispatched to the community to investigate the incident.
Sources say the police officer, accompanied by the family visited the farm, where the suspect allegedly took the victim, and a thorough search was conducted without a breakthrough.
GNA witnessed how the family and community had become apprehensive about the disappearance of Amela with reasons for his safety continuing to grow with each passing day.
Mr. Essoreke Pakisse, the Assembly member for Adumadum Electoral Area said he was not present in the community when the incident occurred, but he received a call from his unit commitment member informing him of the situation and he instructed the member to take charge until his return.
Mr Pakisse told GNA that he had met with the victim’s family to discuss the incident and yet to interact with the suspect and the Police to discuss the case further.
The Assembly member assured that he was committed to ensuring that justice is served when the untoward happens.
Police sources have confirmed the disappearance while investigations are being carried out.
