The Minister of Communications has disclosed that artistes who performed at the GH Covid-19 Tracker App launch did so for free.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said organisers talked to the musicians who agreed to do the show at no charge.
She added that some people who worked behind the scenes including Bola Ray help get some other artistes on board for the launch.
Some of the artiste who performed at the event included Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene, Fancy Gadam, Great Ampong, Diana Asamoah, Lucky Mensah and others.
“I can say that they are not being paid for this,” the Communications Minister told JoyNews’ Becky.
Her comment comes after many social media users said the money used to put the GH Covid-19 Tracker App launch together including paying the artiste could have gone into supporting the fight against coronavirus.
@WHO @IMFNews @WorldBank @BBCAfrica Ghana gov't is alleged to ve paid @shattawalegh Gh¢100,000 as appearance fee in a virtual concert subscribed by less than 800 viewers. Other artistes got Gh¢40,000 meanwhile, gov't is struggling to provide enough PPEs 4 health workers. Worrying

However, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said with the outbreak of the coronavirus, the country could not afford to give any artiste a dime.
“Government is spending lots of money trying to contain this virus, our economy and all our projections are down because of what is happening.”
