A gong gong beaten by the chief of Wumenu near Ho, Togbi Sekpe III, to organise a search party to look for the killer of a Fulani herdsman has helped to expose the murderer.
Kwaku Tenge, 28, refused to heed to the chief’s call urging the men in the village to assemble in front of his palace. He took to his heels into the bush when the chief sent for him.
The chief and his people suspected him of being the murderer and informed the police who together with the youth of the village chased and arrested him.
He was brought before the chief and police personnel and after interrogation confessed killing the herdsman,Sambo and mentioned two others, Anani Agbenorwoko, 26 and Efo Yao, 24 as accomplices. Tenge has since been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Narrating the incident to the gathering, Tenge said on October 9, 2003 at about 8.30pm, he conspired with the two others to rob the herdsman, Sambo and Mahama Bande, also a Fulani herdsman upon hearing that they had gone to Ho to sell a cow.

On their way back they attacked the herdsmen who were walking on a bush path leading to the village with a shotgun. He said they first fired into the air to scare them but the herdsman attempted to take the gun from him. In a scuffle the herdsmen were overpowered and tortured Sambo who died in the process. Banda, the other herdsman, however, managed to escape to the village and informed his father.
The assailants took a cash of ¢2.5 million and bolted.
A report was made to Togbi Sekpe who caused the gong-gong to be beaten.
Yao managed to escape but Tenge and Agbenorwoko were handed over to the police and after investigations charged with robbery and put before a Ho high court.
The court last Monday found Tenge guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment while Agbenorwoko was acquitted and discharged for lack of evidence. The police are looking for Efo Yao who escaped into the bush and had still not been found.
