Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari will require a late fitness test to play in Sunderland’s Premier League game with Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
The on loan Inter Milan midfielder sat out of the Black Cats visit to Birmingham City last Saturday and had earlier missed the team’s 2-3 defeat to West Bromwich Albion to a calf injury.
With the injury list soaring at the club, manager Steve Bruce has requested for the 26-year-old’s availability for the game on Saturday, forcing the club’s medical team to put the hard-tackling midfielder on late fitness test.
Ghana defender John Mensah is confirmed out with a adductor tear in a tie whose reverse in the first round saw striker Asamoah Gyan scored his debut goal for Sunderland.
