Muntari attracts more interests

Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari continues to attract a lot of interests with the European transfer window opened for the 26 days. Portsmouth are long standing admirers and are hoping to bring Muntari to England, but now Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is also interested in snapping up Muntari, with new West Ham boss Alan Curbishley keen on using John Paintsil to bait Muntari to the struggling Hammers. However with all the attention, Udinese coach Giovanni Galeone is desperate to keep his hardworking midfielder. He told a newspaper he would cry should Muntari leave the club. He said Muntari reacts badly to situations and that is the only one defect he doesn’t like about the player. But Galeone says Muntari must grow up and understand he's a player at European level and that certain behaviours cannot be tolerated. So far this season, the 22-year-old Muntari has picked three red cards. Udinese in August 2005 similarly dismissed rumours linking Muntari with a move to English side Manchester United. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was reported to have followed the midfielder's progress since his fine performances in the 2001 African Under-20 Championships. But Udinese General Director Pietro Leonardi was reported by the BBC as saying that the then 21-year-old who has been a regular in the side since arriving at Udinese in 2002 “is going nowhere.” Meanwhile another Black Stars player, John Mensah might not be joining the Premiership until the end of the season. Reading were very interested in signing the Rennes defender, however a deal couldn’t be agreed in time before the season started. However at the half way stage, Reading boss, Steve Coppel says he wants players ready to cope with the rigours of the Premiership. Steve Coppell says he would like to bring in two players during the January transfer window – however he will not be going abroad to bolster Reading’s squad. He has been monitoring Rennes’ John Mensah for next season but insists right now he is only looking to bring in players who have experience of the English game.
