The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Kwamena Bartels has expressed optimism that MTN, the new owners of Areeba, would inject huge financial resources and technical expertise into their operations to enhance the quality of telecommunication delivery in the country.
“I have no doubt that the phenomenal expansion will result in a phenomenal improvement in the quality of service delivery,” he said.
Mr. Bartels made the remark when a three-member delegation from MTN led by the Group Executive, Corporate Affairs, Ms Nozipho January-Bardill called on him in Accra to formally inform him of the company’s presence in the country as well as their operation plans.
He noted that over the years government had had several problems with the quality of service of Areeba and he was sure that MTN would live up to expectation in terms of quality.
The Minister told the group that government saw them as potential partners in the development of communication services in the country saying with their worldwide experience Ghana was sure MTN would play enormous role in creating one of the best communication systems in the country.
Mr Bartels praised Areeba for the investing about 20 million dollars in water delivery projects in some part of Accra and other community development activities they had embarked upon and urged MTN to continue where Areeba ended.
He said government would continue to offer MTN the needed support to make the company realize its corporate dividend as they provided the best service to the people.
Ms January-Bardill said MTN was satisfied with government’s cooperation so far and gave the assurance that they would provide the best quality service to the people.
She called for government’s further assistance to help build a state-of-the art communication system in the country to make it a hub in the sub-region.
