MTN Ghana on Thursday distributed 250 hampers to babies born on December 25 and 26, in some selected health facilities across the country.

The gesture has become a symbolic way of showing love to newborn babies and their mothers during the festive season since 2011.

It was all smiles for mothers who delivered ‘Xmas babies’ at Ashaiman Polyclinic when the MTN team handed over their hampers to them.

Health authorities were very grateful for the love and care the network provider continues to share.

Senior Manager for Branch Network Services at MTN, Janet Quarshie, in an interview after distribution said 50 of the hampers were given out within Greater Accra Region.

“We first went to Ashaiman Polyclinic to express our love to babies and mothers there and we just finished doing same at Tema General Hospital,” she said.

According to her, this gesture as a way of spreading love and joy, has come to stay to make mothers and their babies happy in the festive season.

At Tema General Hospital, mothers could not hide their joy with beaming smiles on their faces just to express their gratitude to MTN.

The In-charge at the Caesarian Section Ward, Evelyn Sorkpor, on behalf of mothers and the facility was grateful.

“MTN is already doing a lot for us and the gesture this morning will go a long way to help mothers and their babies to also enjoy this season,” she indicated.

The name MTN is synonymous with lifesaver at the hospital.

MTN Foundation within 18 months built, furnished and handed over an ultra-modern 40-bed maternity block worth GH¢ 5.5 million in 2018 to Tema General Hospital.

This was to help save mothers and their babies due to the numerous challenges the hospital faces.

Since handing over the new maternity block to the hospital in August 2018, over 5,000 babies have so far been delivered with maternal mortality declining significantly.

Statistics available indicate that between January and August 2018, the facility recorded 20 maternal mortality cases but that has reduced to eight, same period this year.
