MTN Ghana Foundation has provided street lights, sanitation facilities and sports items and learning material worth GHC59,524.06 to Tamale Senior High School in the Northern Region. The company presented library books, sport kits, laboratory stools, shelves and street lights and also commissioned a a 12-seater sanitary facility for the school. A statement from MTN said the support for the school is in line with the company’s commitment to supporting the development and promotion of quality education at all levels across the country. It quoted a board member of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mrs. Nabilla Williams as saying MTN is committed to enriching the lives of Ghanaians with improved educational facilities and materials. “MTN Ghana recognises the important role education plays in the development of individuals, communities and nations. Education also shapes attitudes, helps people realise their talent and potential it is therefore important that as a nation we create the enabling environment that will help the youth develop their physical and mental abilities for the development of the country” Mrs. Williams said. She assured the people of Tamale of quality network service saying “it is unfortunate that the numerous fibre cuts as a result of construction works across the country adversely affect our provision of quality service – but we remain resolute to our commitment and will ensure that network challenges in the region are mitigated”. The statemnent said the Tamale Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Dasana commended MTN for its nationwide CSR initiatives. He said “the government appreciates MTN’s corporate partnership initiatives towards development in Ghana”. The chairman for the occasion, Dr. Haruna was full of appreciation for MTN, saying “we have been working very hard to generate support to help improve conditions in the school and we are happy that finally, MTN has come to the aid of Tamale Secondary School.” MTN Ghana Foundation has demonstrated its determination to enhance quality education and health in all 10 regions of the country. In the Northern Region alone, the foundation has invested GH¢ 904,000.00 in such projects. Some of the projects include a three unit classroom block for Kanvilli Presby Junior High School (JHS), a six unit classroom block at the Zujung Community School and the provision of teaching and learning materials to about 1,630 pupils in five schools to enhance literacy and numeracy; other support projects include the provision of 10 boreholes for selected communities in Tamale and the construction of an ICT Centre of Learning in Tolon.
