Kwame Opoku struck a last minute winner for Asante Kotoko in their dramatic 2-1 win over division one outfit, True Democracy, in the MTN FA Cup semifinal.
Winger, Saaka Dauda, gave Kotoko the dream start after just 13 minutes, with a well hit strike, pouncing on a smart quick throw in by Patrick Asiedu.
The early goal set the tone for what the home fans believed was going to be a straightforward day at the office.
However, True Democracy had other ideas, limiting Kotoko’s offensive efforts and threatening the Porcupine Warriors defense on their own.
Mohammed Camara was on hand to save a well drilled low effort, as True Democracy pushed for the equalizer.
The very open, end to end encounter saw Kotoko go close to doubling their lead, after Asiedu shot narrowly wide after some good work from Ntim Manu on the left hand side.
Kotoko managed to keep the lead, with the Porcupine Warriors going into the break 1-0 up.
Prosper Ogum’s side, were rather blunt in the opening embers of the second half, and struggled to carve open the opposition defense.
The game took an unwanted turn for Kotoko, when True Democracy found the equalizer through a deflected free-kick.
The goal prompted a double substitution by Kotoko, with Justice Blay and Emmanuel Antwi are coming off for Tenadu and Baba Yahaya.
The game looked set for the dreaded penalty shootout, when January signing, Kwame Opoku lashed unto a loose ball on the edge of the box and fired home past the keeper for the winner.
The win sends Kotoko to the semifinals of the competition, maintaining their quest for a double this season.
