Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, has called on Members of Parliament (MP) to ensure transparency and accountability in the disbursements of the MPs Common Fund.
He said the over GHc60,000 allocated to each MP annually under the fund, was enough for the initiation of projects to supplement government's development agenda.
The Regional Minister was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the three Dekpor communities, to commemorate the rice festival, organized by the citizens at Dekpor-Horme in the Ketu District of the Region, to raise funds for development, including electrification and water projects in the area.
Mr Dzamesi lamented that progress made under the Fund by MPs was unremarkable.
He entreated MPs to support their constituents to establish educational endowment funds to sponsor the education of brilliant but needy children in the area.
Mr Dzamesi said government was committed to assisting the people to improve rice cultivation, find market for the produce and asked them to inform the authorities about problems facing agriculture in the area.
The Regional Minister, who promised to donate 10 street lamps to the communities, asked the youth and women in the area to take advantage of government intervention schemes to improve their standards of living.
Togbe Adela Dartey III, Dufia of Dekpor, expressed gratitude to government for the creation of a new district for the area, saying this would enhance the development of the area.
