The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North is being investigated for allegedly stealing 300 electric bulbs meant for street lighting projects in some communities in the constituency.
This follows complaints by the Municipal Chief Executive for Goaso, Mohammed Doku-Mensah, after he was told by the Volta River Authority (VRA) the items he had requested had already been supplied to the MP.
Mr. Doku said his preliminary investigations have revealed the MP, Robert Safo Mensah, had taken the items in the name of the assembly but claims they were supplied to him as MP for the area.
The MCE disclosed in an interview with Joy News on Wednesday the MP’s action amounts to stealing and that the assembly would pursue the issue to the logical conclusion.
He said the assembly was informed about the electric bulbs but checks in the records showed no supplies had been made.
Authorities then became suspicious and reported the matter to the police. He said police discovered during their investigations that the items were in the custody of the MP.
A man who had allegedly been asked to supply the materials confessed to police he had delivered the items to the residence of the MP.
