Member of Parliament for the Bekwai constituency Hon. Kofi Edusei-Poku has described as “irrelevant” allegations that he hired thugs to terrorize his opponent, Joe Osei Owusu.
“I don’t want to tolerate those blackmailing and irrelevant stories about Osei Owusu”
“I have better things to think about” he snapped
While denying the allegations, Hon Edusei-Poku in an interview with Joy news accused Joe Osei Owusu of causing needless tension in the constituency ahead of the December polls.
Joe Osei Owusu former head of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority declared his intentions to run as independent candidate, after losing by a single vote to the incumbent MP in the New Patriotic Party primaries.
Since then, the two have been on logger heads with simmering tension in the constituency.
Police in the Ashanti Region arrested nine people in a hotel on suspicion and information that they had been hired by the incumbent MP to terrorize his the former DVLA boss.
But Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Ayensu told Joy news the suspects have been granted bail.
“They were not committing any crime in the hotel, it will be against the law to keep them in custody for more than 48 hours” he explained.
He however gave the assurance investigations were still under way and the suspects will be rounded up if found culpable.
