The End-of-Year crossover has become a household tradition that many people anticipate on the last day of every year.
It is the time of the year when many people attend church after a long year, and churches record higher attendance during the services.
While some people attend services at their respective churches, others are more interested in moving from one church to another, using the excuse that they do not belong to any church but want to partake in the crossover session.
Such people begin their service with a particular church congregation but cross over the year in a different church, feeling fulfilled to have been part of the transition process, not bothered about where they started or ended.
However, speaking with Asieduwaa Akumia on Joy Prime's Prime Morning show, the Executive Pastor of Hill City Church of Worldwide Word Ministries, Apostle Chris Gbedemah, clarified that attending more than one church on the 31st night is a bad practice.
“No, I wouldn’t recommend that at all. There should be a local church where you’re committed to, where you submit to authority, where you believe that this man of God is called by God, sent of God, anointed, who carries the word of the Lord, and so you go there; you’re submitted; they’re a covering over you, and because you know the man of God, his character, integrity… But if you just go from place to place, you’ll be missing out on something, and you’ll look in the Spirit like you’re not really serious.”
He said that one also needs to be spiritually serious by worshiping at a specific local church and knowing the man of God to guide them in understanding vital things and expectations of God for them.
The clergy entreated people who are fond of the act to try and desist from it and seek God’s refuge in prayer to guide their paths.
Similarly, the Apostle does not fully support joining the crossover night service virtually but would recommend it to someone who may be stuck somewhere due to circumstances, provided the person strongly believes in their man of God and is disciplined enough to follow the session throughout.
“If you cannot make it in person, try to be very serious. Create a conducive atmosphere where if they’re playing worship in the background before the service starts, you’re there with no distractions whatsoever, and then you crossover,” he said.
