Mourinho explains why Baba Rahman isn’t yet ready for EPL

After a decent performance in his Chelsea debut in midweek, Baba Rahman did not even make the Chelsea bench on Saturday.

The Blues, at the Stamford Bridge, muscled Arsenal in a 2-0 performance masterminded by Jose Mourinho, who did not give the Ghanaian a look-in.

Several international outlets had praised Baba for his enterprise, but most noted that he needed more nurturing for the rigours of a top-level team like Chelsea.

It's a sentiment echoed by the Portuguese manager. "Baba is a fantastic player but not yet cut for the premiership. Champions league is different. He did not have pre season with us," Mourinho reportedly explained before kickoff.

It is a quote that will baffle many watchers, especially because former Barcelona man Pedro also joined the Blues without having pre-season with them.

That said, the 21-year old has already stated his desire to fight for a place on the Blues bench after making his debut in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"I'm hoping to play very, very often - my main aim is to play as many games as I can here," Rahman told BBC Sport on Thursday.

In fact, the former Kotoko man had said he was only "a little" happy with own performance against Maccabi Tel Aviv. "If the people in Ghana keep supporting me I can make them proud," he added.

If that is his worry, he can be rest assured that everyone back home is behind him.
